Eight objects reported inside ten LD

There are eight transient natural objects objects known to be traveling within ten lunar distances (LD) of Earth today. Closest is outbound NHATS target 2017 FT102, moving from 3.80 to 4.28 LD.

This report was generated at 1720 UTC with three discoveries announced late yesterday and early today, two of them shown in the active traffic table here plus departed 2017 GK6 (MPEC), which flew past us at 2.73 LD on April 4th. There are no close passers in today's DOU MPEC, but yesterday's, the first DOU since Thursday, had follow-up for outbound 2017 GT4 and approaching 2017 CS, and for departed objects 2017 FP128, 2017 FO101, 2017 FX90, 2017 FU64, and risk-listed radar/NHATS target 2016 TB57, plus astrometry from October 2012 for risk-listed radar/NHATS target 2012 TC4, which will approach closely this October, and from April 2015 for 2015 HM10, 2015 HD10, and 2015 HD1.



Notes: Ten times the distance to the Moon (ten LD) has no astronomical importance but is a useful boundary for reporting on transient natural objects that approach the actually significant gravitational sphere of influence (SOI), which has a radius of about 2.41 LD from Earth's center. This puts a focus on some of the most important and very best NEO observation work, representative of the much larger NEO discovery and tracking effort. The MPC's NEO Confirmation Page has 44 listings

When last checked at 2357 UTC today, the Minor Planet Center's Near Earth Object discovery Confirmation Page (NEOCP) had 44 objects listed. Of these, eighteen were "one nighters." So far The Tracking News has counted a total of 48 listings on the NEOCP today.
