There are seven small visitors reported to be less than ten lunar distances (LD) from Earth today. Nearest is 2018 XL1, which comes its closest to us this time around, reaching 2.42 LD at 0606 UTC.

This report was generated at 1941 UTC with six new discoveries, all of them recently departed from the ten-LD space. The closest of these was 2018 XP2 (MPEC), which passed the Moon at 0.69 LD and the Earth at 1.01 LD on December 8th. Two that didn't come so near are 2018 XR2 (MPEC) at perhaps 4.7 LD on November 29th and 2018 XG2 (MPEC) at 5.59 LD on December 5th, while the other three have been preliminarily listed with virtual impact solutions. 2018 XX2 (MPEC), flew by at about 3.68 LD on December 6th, 2018 XQ2 (MPEC) at around 9.2 LD the same day, and 2018 XF2 (MPEC) went by at 8.08 LD on December 7th. Today's DOU MPEC has follow-up for inbound 2018 XJ1 and departed risk-listed 2018 XA, plus observation from 2014 for risk-listed 2014 HN199, adding 3.00 days to its previous 3.98-day observing arc.

When last checked at 2358 UTC today, the Minor Planet Center's Near Earth Object discovery Confirmation Page (NEOCP) had 28 objects listed. Of these, twelve were "one nighters." So far The Tracking News has counted a total of 77 listings on the NEOCP today.

An impact solution, also known as a "virtual impactor" (VI), is not a prediction but rather a possibility derived from a variant orbit calculation that cannot be eliminated yet based on the existing data. Elimination can come quickly with just a little further observation or may take weeks or months, sometimes years.
