Six objects reported inside ten LD

Six small asteroids have been reported to be less than ten lunar distances (LD) from our planet today. Nearest of these is 2019 KA3, which heads away from 4.65 to 5.15 LD. This statement, however, is based on Minor Planet Center (MPC) data from no later than June 5th, when the last Minor Planet Electronic Circular (MPEC) was issued. There are quite possibly other objects within our ten-LD traffic reporting "bubble," mainly a small subset of some 153 potential objects currently on the MPC's still functioning NEO discovery Confirmation Page. We cannot report how close those objects might be coming, but you can be assured that, as usual, they are all being watched for possible impact trajectories, as shown at the NEODyS NEOScan pages and NASA/JPL's Scout data interface.

This report was generated at 1750 UTC. At last check, no DOU MPEC has been posted yet today.

Notes: Ten times the distance to the Moon (ten LD) has no astronomical importance but is a useful boundary for reporting about transient natural objects that approach our planet's gravitational sphere of influence (SOI), which has a radius of about 2.41 LD from Earth's center. This puts a focus on some of the most important and very best NEO observation work, representative of the much larger NEO discovery and tracking effort. Object temporal distances are derived by A/CC from JPL Horizons data. See also current sky chart and object details (alt-details), ephemerides, and today's timeline.

NEOCP Activity  on 9 June '19

The MPC's NEO Confirmation Page has 169 listings

When last checked at 2358 UTC today, the Minor Planet Center's Near Earth Object discovery Confirmation Page (NEOCP) had 169 objects listed. Of these, 41 were "one nighters." So far The Tracking News has counted a total of 181 listings on the NEOCP today.

To learn how observers use the NEOCP, see the Practical guide on how to observe NEOCP object at Suno Observatory by Birtwhistle et al.

New MPECs  on 9 June '19

Minor Planet Electronic Circulars

As of last check at 2358 UTC, there have been no MPECs posted today from the International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

When no Daily Orbit Update (DOU) MPEC has been posted by this time of day, visit the MPC Status Page for possible explanation.

Observers  on 9 June '19

Without MPECs with observations to report, we have no observers to list yet today. For a list of all participating observatories that have Web addresses, see A/CC's Observatory Links page.

Impact Risk Monitoring  on 9 June '19

At last check (NEODyS at 2358 UTC) there was no risk monitoring news to report yet today. Visit the CRT to view activity in the last four weeks and our ephemerides page for a complete list of risk-rated objects under current observation or having recent news.
